Yesterday's ultrasound was incredible. We had our appointment at Beaumont at 4:30pm. Bryan and I picked up my mom and drove to the hospital. (My dad wanted to be there but wasn't feeling well.) We arrived at the fetal imaging office at 4pm. Someone had cancelled an appointment, so Noreen, the ultrasound technician, took us in early.
Noreen had me lay down and everyone else got a seat and watching the monitor adoringly. The first measurements she took were of the head, brain, and the extremities. Next, we got to see the spine and the blood flow from the umbilical cord to the baby. The baby kept curling up and folding his/her legs over his/her body and the ultrasound technician couldn't get all the pictures that she needed, so she asked me to go for a walk and take a few steps on the stairs to try and move the baby.
Bryan and I went for a walk. I was going up and down several steps, and kicking my legs and stretching. We went back into the room and the technician started to laugh. The baby had turned over and was laying on his/her belly, face down. Noreen said that it looked like the baby was comfortable and trying to fall asleep. She tried to get me to move around more and then the baby squatted down into the lowest part of my uterus. Noreen, couldn't get the rest of the pictures that she needed so she asked me to lay down on my stomach to move the baby.
I rested on my stomach for a few minutes and then we tried again. Noreen got a few more pictures of the four chambers of the heart, the kidneys, and other organs. In order to complete the ultrasound she needed about 4 more views of the baby. So, I went for another walk.
When I got back, Noreen, get pictures of the front of the face. She wasn't able to get a photo of the front of the heart or the profile of the face. I have to go back for a second ultrasound in approximately 2 weeks. Hopefully, my dad will be feeling better and then he can come with us next time.
We did get all good news though! From the measurements that Noreen was able to get, the baby is growing at the right pace and looks very healthy! The baby is 10 oz. as of yesterday.
It was so great seeing our baby for the first time. Bryan's favorite part was seeing the spine, and I loved seeing the baby move around and try to do flips and handstands. It was so cute, the baby kept putting his/her head down like an ostrich and kept bending his/her legs to raise his/her butt into the air. It was very funny and a lot of fun. We can't wait to go back in a few weeks for more pictures!
